The silence, the gasp, the roar – senior guard Sebastian Thomas contributed to all three crowd reactions with his game winning shot to lift Rhode Island over Davidson 92-90 on Saturday afternoon.
After junior forward Bailey Reed connected on a second-chance attempt to put Davidson in front of the Rams with five seconds to go, Thomas sprinted down the floor with one thought on his mind – score.
A one-legged floater from the top of the arc hit the middle of the square on the backboard and ricocheted right through the rim, sending the Ryan Center into a frenzy and lifting the Rams back to .500 in conference play.
These heroics are not new to Thomas, who has hoisted game-winning shots four times this year. The veteran guard hit the winner in the late moments of Rhody’s wins over Providence, Temple, George Mason and now Davidson.
Thomas ended the game with 22 points, joining senior forward David Green for the team lead. Senior guard Jaden House did not trail too far behind, finishing the contest with 19 points of his own.
Aside from scoring, several Rams had double-digit impacts on the scoresheet away from scoring. Thomas dished out 10 assists with no turnovers, while sophomore forward David Fuchs collected 11 rebounds.
The Rams are back at the Ryan Center on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. when they host another Ram from the Atlantic 10, VCU. The game can be streamed on ESPN+ with a radio broadcast available on the Varsity Network.
